Minister of Education and Science of Georgia Dimitri Shashkini attended a photo exhibition”University and Red History” held within the scope of the events dedicated to 93th anniversary of Iv. Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University.
Photo Exhibition was organized by Tbilisi State University and Archive Division of Ministry of Internal Affairs.
All interested persons will have opportunity to get familiar with the unique documentary and photo materials of the last century featuring the hard times faced by the university professors in the Soviet repression period.
The exhibition presents the letters of exiled students to Ivane Javakhishvili, as well as books of repressed professors such as Shalva Nutsubidze, Simon Kaukhchishvili, Grigol Tsereteli, Vukol Beridze, Giorgi Gekhtmann and Vakhtang Kotetishvili.
A new issue of the journal “ Saarkivo Moambe” prepared by Archive Division of Ministry of Internal Affairs is also dedicated to the 93th anniversary of Iv. Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University. For the first time, readers will learn why Stalin made “ Knight in Panther’s Skin translated in Russian in 1939-40, why Lavrenti Beria’s report was followed by repression of Georgian intellectuals, what mechanism were used to destroy people morally and physically.
Presentation of the documentary film based on real cases kept at the archives of Ministry of Internal Affairs was also held within the frame of the mentioned events.
The event was also attended by the rector of Tbilisi State University Alexander Kvitashvili, scientists, experts and representatives of academia.
