Minister of Education and Science of Georgia Dimitri Shashkini awarded the winners of the analytical essay contest “February 25 and August 8 - History’s Parallel“ at the Occupation Museum. The contest was held within the scope of the events dedicated to Russia’s occupation of Georgia on February 25, 1921. Up to 1000 schoolchildren (IX-XIIth graders) from general educational institutions participated in this competition.
Raising patriotic and civil consciousness, developing skills of analyzing historical facts and events were among the aims of the competition. It is very important for the Ministry that the schoolchildren can evaluate the meaning of events of 1921 and 2008 and draw parallel among them and form their opinions on these historical events.
IX-XII graders of public and private general educational institutions were eligible to participate in the competition. The jury evaluated their works and selected three winners, along with the diplomas the top contestants were conferred with prizes.
First Place – Tornike Berelidze - XIth grader – Poti Niko Nikoladze №2 public school ( he was awarded with one time cash prize: 400 GEL);
Second Place- Veriko Agdgomelashvili – XIth grader – Village of Mukhati Koda, Tetritskaro- (she was awarded with one time cash prize: 300 GEL);
Third Place- Giorgi Chapidze- XIIth grader- Tbilisi №99 public school- (he was awarded with one time cash prize: 200 GEL).
