Minister of Education and Science of Georgia Dimitri Shashkini and Director of National Center for Teachers Professional Development Ghia Mamulashvili held a briefing on the contest of the public school principals.

The registration of applicants for the position of school principals has already started and will last till March 20. Any person who has obtained a higher education degree is eligible to participate in the contest. The exam will be held in two rounds. First, contestants will pass the test with the help of the special computer program, those contestants who will be able to pass the first round, will be invited for the interview.

In order to enhance the leaning quality at schools and constantly improve general education system, Ministry of Education and Science of Georgia implements number of reforms. To support the professional development of the personnel, important novelties were introduced - for example, school principals’ standard was adopted. This document defines the knowledge and skills of the public schools principals and identifies professional values and responsibilities that are preconditions of a successful performance of the school principals.

The aim of the above mentioned contest is to select the professionals that meet the requirements of the public school principals’ standards and are capable of managing and developing the school by applying the modern standards.
