By the decision of the Ministry of Education and Science of Georgia and Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia, a new subject “Traffic Signs and Road Safety” will be introduced at general educational institutions from the next academic year.
The subject will be taught for 11th graders. The goal of the introduction of the new subject is to ensure safe traffic at roads. Teaching of “Traffic Signs and Road Safety” subject at schools will contribute much to the safety of the roads.
The schoolchildren will take auto driver lessons (theoretical) at schools. Upon a successful competition of the course, the schoolchildren will get the drivers’ temporary license at the age of 17 free of charge. Schoolchildren will need the parents’ consent as well. The schoolchildren will have right to drive the cars in the streets, though they will not be allowed to drive public passenger vehicles.
At the age of 18, young person will be able to get the international driving license free of charge.
The Ministry of Education and Science of Georgia will develop the appropriate textbooks, with the support of the Police Academy teachers will be trained to teach this new subject.
