Natia Jokhadze talked about the process of creating National Curriculum 2011-2016. Along with NCAC experts, invited experts, representatives of academic circles and schoolteachers have been involved in developing the National Curriculum 2011-2016.

The new National Curriculum will be implemented gradually. In 2011-2012 the new National Curriculum will be run in the primary classes (I-VI grades), in 2012-2013 at basic and high levels (VII-XII grades).

At the meeting, the principals were informed about all the novelties in National Curriculum: the structure and subject programs of the National Curriculum have been changed, each subject considers at least 60%-80% compulsory part of the content, new subjects have been added - Information and Communication Technologies, Civil Defense and Safety, Georgian Dancing. Besides, learning of the English Language have been increased - the pupils will study English in the first grade. Sports changed the PE lessons, Piloting of the new elective subject "the World Culture" has begun and the learning of Natural Sciences was also increased.

Thea Paichadze, NCAC Deputy Director represented the list of elective subjects to the meeting participants, she talked about the innovations to be implemented in 2011-2013 academic year.

"National Curriculum offers elective subjects to the X, XI and XII grade students. The list number of elective subjects has increased up to 40 and in case of students' interest it may be broadened even more" - said Thea Paichadze.

Principals expressed their opinions about the novelties in the National Curriculum.

At the end of the meeting Natia Jokhadze and Thea Paichadze answered principals' questions.

One of the main functions of NCAC is to prepare and implement National Curriculum. National Curriculum is the key document and its main purpose is to bring up an independent, intellectual person.
