A two day scientific conference was dedicated to learning of Georgian Language. The conference was organized by Iv. Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University and Minister of Education and Science of Georgia Dimitri Shashkini participated in it.
The main theme of the conference was to review the current practices of learning of the state language and changes introduced in the process of learning of the second language worldwide. Georgian and foreign experts and field specialists participated in discussion of the mentioned issues.
In order to promote the bilingual learning and enhance the learning of Georgian language as a second language, number of projects has been implemented by the Ministry: Georgian Language houses have been opened in the regions populated by the ethnic minorities, from the new academic year a new program “Georgian Language for Future Success” will start operating. In the frame of this program, BA and MA students will teach different school subjects to the students in Georgian language together with the local teachers in non-Georgian schools of Kvemo Kartli, Samtskhe- Javakheti and Kakheti schools.
For the first time, this year, national minority entrants will be enrolled at HEIs based on the general ability test only. Successful students will take up a yearlong intensive course in Georgian language and afterwards will continue pursuing the specialty of their choice in Georgian language. The most successful 100 Azeri and 100 Armenian students will get a state scholarship.
The conferences summed up the outcomes of the studies on learning of the state language carried out in Georgian and different parts of the world. Georgian specialists were given opportunity to get familiar with the modern international experience in regard to learning of the second languages.
Minister Shashkini positively assessed the conference and highlighted the importance of sharing the international approaches and findings in the process of further enhancing the learning of the state language.
