Minister Dimitri Shashkini presented achievements of the program Teach & Learn with Georgia (TLG) to diplomatic corps, representatives of international organizations and civil society gathered at Courtyard Marriott.

In the frame of the event, Minister and TLG program Manager Maia Siprashvili Lee discussed the one year impact of TLG program on the English language teaching process and highlighted the future goals and strategy of the program.

Strengthening the English language learning process through TLG at Georgian schools as a part of the “Teach and Learn with Georgia” program is one of the most important priorities of the Government of Georgia. In the scope of this program, native & fluent English speaker teachers teach English together with the local teachers at secondary schools of Georgia both in cities and in the regions.

Based on the reports of the native English speaker teachers, the Ministry has decided to alter the textbooks for the 1^st to 6^th grades. This year, Macmillan textbooks of English Language will be introduced from the 1^st to 6^th grades, from the 2012-2013 academic year, schoolchildren from 7^th to 12^th grade will also learn English with these textbooks. In this regard, the memorandum of understanding was signed among the Ministry and Macmillan publishing house in 2010.

The main goal of the project “Teach and Learn with Georgia” is to improve English language proficiency through recruiting English speakers teachers in public schools across Georgia. It is also expected that the exchange of information, experiences and cultures will create important ties between Georgians and other peoples from different parts of the world.
