The President of Georgia Mikheil Saakashvili met 150 teachers that are involved in the program “Georgian Language for Future Success” and discussed with them the results of the program.
The program “Georgian Language for Future Success” started in September 2011 by the initiative of the President. The aim of the program is to improve the knowledge of Georgian language among the ethnic minorities living in Georgia. In the scope of the program 150 native speaker teachers are teaching Georgian language in the schools of Samtskhe-Javakheti, Kvemo Kartli and Kakheti. By the end of the year the number of teachers will increase to 500.
Before leaving for regions the teachers passed the special trainings. While conducting Georgian language lessons, the program participants co-teach with local teachers of the Georgian language and assist the teachers of other subjects to deliver classes bilingually. The teachers participating in the program live in host families.
Participants of the program have created Georgian Language Clubs at schools. These clubs envisage enhancing the schoolchildren’s knowledge of Georgian language and culture.
Ministry of Education and Science
of Georgia developed Georgian language textbook for primary level
schoolchildren from ethnic minorities. Above mentioned textbook was designed according
to the modern teaching and learning standards and interactive methods of
teaching the language.
The textbook is accompanied by audio visual materials and computer games.
Ministry of Education and Science of Georgia will fund M.A studies of B.A participants of the program based on their one year work experience at the schools of the mentioned regions. At the same time, experience gained in the frame of the program will be considered in case the participants opt to pass Teacher Certification Exams and further pursue their career in teaching.
