Tbilisi Mayor’s office engaged in an Anti-Drug campaign together with the Parliament of Georgia, the national government, and the Prosecutor’s office. To develop this program, the Mayor of Tbilisi, Gigi Ugulava, held a working meeting with the Minister of Education and Science, Dimitri Shashkini, the First Deputy of the Chief Prosecutor, David Sakvarelidze, the Minister of Labor, Health and Social Affairs, Andria Urushadze, and other members of the Georgian government.
An alternative drug rehabilitation center will be constructed in Bazaleti, designed by the Tbilisi Mayor’s office.
Trends of drug abuse among school students has decreased significantly; only a few cases have been reported within the past years. The complex measures taken by the Ministry as a part of the safe school concept have clearly resulted in a positive outcome.
Despite this progress, drug abuse remains one of the most important issues that needs to be addressed amoung students; proceeding from this, the Ministry is committed to continue working with other respective agencies and institutions to prevent crime and drug abuse among youth.
