Dimitri Shashkini met the Deputy Secretary of the US Department of Defense
The Georgia Central Public Health Reference Laboratory
(CPHRL) is the result of a collaborative effort between the Government of the
United States and the Government of Georgia. The facility was established with
the financial support of the US Department of Defense.
Today, Minister Dimitri Shashkini met Deputy Secretary of the US Department of Defense, Andrew Weber, and representatives of CRDF-Global.
Joint projects and researchers that are being managed and undertaken in the lab were discussed during the meeting.
The CPHRL is designed as a biocontainment laboratory providing a high level of sophistication that allows lab technicians to perform microbial forensics and strain characterization research to better understand endemic pathogens, thereby enhancing regional public and veterinary health capacities.
Promoting public and animal health through infectious disease detection, epidemiological surveillance, and research for the benefit of Georgia, the Caucasus region, and the global community is the goal of the lab.
