Representatives of Georgian Tennis Federation held a presentation on School Tennis Program at the Ministry of Education and Science of Georgia. The presentation was attended by directors and sport teachers of 26 public schools.
Memorandum of Understanding between the Ministry of Education and Science of Georgia and Georgian Tennis Federation was signed in 2010. At the initial stage, tennis classes were opened in 10 public schools. In 2013, the number of schools increased by 26 and the number of pupils – from 4000 to 12000.
Georgian Tennis Federation organized trainings of teachers with the help of Georgian and foreign experts. Trainings will continue in future.
In the framework of the Program, International Tennis Federation handed mini-tennis equipment to the Georgian side. The inventory was distributed among the schools. 20 standard tennis courts were set in 20 public schools.
Tennis competitions are held periodically between schools. In future, it is planned to set up tennis teams and participate in international tournaments.
The joint project envisages encouragement of healthy life-style and teaching of tennis in public schools. This wills encourage development and popularization of Georgian tennis.
