Today, Minister of Education and Science of Georgia Giorgi Margvelashvili met with pupils from villages Tolenji, Meliaskhevi and Chekuraantgori in Tianeti Municipality. These are the pupils who go to the public school of village Khevsuretsopeli and have to walk the distance of 10-20 kilometers.
The pupils from Tianeti were informed by the Minister about the fact that the pupils and several teachers will have school bus from March, 2013. The problem could have been solved earlier, if not the negligence of the head of Tianeti Resource Center. The head of the resource center has not notified the Ministry regarding the problem in due course.
Village Chekuraantgori is 10 kilometers away from Khevsuretsopeli, so the pupils from Chekuraantgori had to walk considerably longer distance and could manage to reach the school only by the beginning of the second lesson. This problem will be solved for 30 villages from March. Parents will not be forced to take their children to the schools in regional centers and less young people will migrate from their villages.
Giorgi Margvelashvili visited Gldani Public School #69 today and met up to 40 socially unprotected pupils. These pupils are provided with school bus since January, 2013.
The pupils live in a settlement “Giorgitsminda” which is 6 kilometers away from the school. Public transport does not appear in the settlement on regular basis, the road needs to be repaired. For these reasons, the pupils had to walk in order to reach the school. Today this problem is solved.
With the initiative of the Ministry, new Project “School accessibility” was launched in January 2013. 190 public schools are involved in the project and over 9000 pupils now have school buses. Tender winning companies are providing transportation services. Additionally 140 schools will join the project and transportation services will be provided for 16000 pupils in total.
