National Curriculum Department of the Ministry of Education and Science of Georgia made a presentation on new maths handbooks for I and II grades. The textbooks were prepared and published with the support of the US Agency for International Development (USAID) and “Save the Children Georgia.”
Implementation of new methodologies and approaches for the education of pupils with special needs represents one of the main priorities of the Ministry. A number of very important steps were taken in this direction by National Curriculum Department. Bilingual program of Georgian sign language and writing skills for deaf pupils and pupils with hearing impediment has been developed together with manuals for pupils and teachers with special needs.
New math textbook is based on the methodology with visual material and special teaching/learning needs. Different types of exercises and tasks are included in the book. They help develop logical thinking. Teaching methodology implies active usage of educational computer games and includes methodological recommendations for teachers.
The textbooks will be handed to the schools for pupils with hearing impediment. Electronic version will be uploaded on the official web-page of electronic library of the Ministry: elibrary.emis.ge
The author of the textbook is Ekaterine Kordzadze, head of Maths and IT group at National Curriculum Department. Teachers of Public School 203 actively participated in the process.
The presentation was attended by Natia Jokhadze, Head of National Curriculum Department and representatives of USAID, “Save the Children Georgia”, non-governmental organizations and Tbilisi public schools.
