Council of Europe assesses the strategy used in National Curriculum of Georgia
Language
Policy Unit of Council of Europe represents a Unit implementing various
activities to encourage multilingual education in European Educational Space.
Language Policy Unit has conducted comparative analysis of primary level
national curricula of member states in 2012-2013. The aim of the analysis was
to make clear to what degree the mechanism of multilingual education is
reflected in national curricula.

The strategy used in National Curriculum of Georgia was emphasized and given a positive review. National Curriculum divides language standards according to command of language and not according to grades. This kind of approach is not found in the curricula of other member states and gives a good opportunity to take into consideration level of language command among the pupils of certain grades, provides flexibility and vertical sequence of language teaching.
Besides, as mentioned in the report, goals for teaching languages are discussed separately in the national curricula of the member states. National Curriculum of Georgia is an exception in this regard. Language standards are in conceptual frame and competences are singled out for each of them. The strategy encourages transfer of experience from one language to the other.
Great emphasis is given to modern strategies in teaching/learning process for improving language competences.
