Today, Tamar Sanikidze, Minister of Education and Science of Georgia awarded winners of School Subjects Olympiads with money prizes and diplomas. For the first time this year, up to 80 teachers of winning pupils were awarded with diplomas of appreciation. 91 prize holders were selected according to age groups in each subject. These pupils became holders of I (32 pupils), II (29) and III (30) places. Consequently, the winners were awarded with diplomas and money prizes worth of 1000, 700 and 500 GEL.
Success of the pupils determined ranking of schools. As a result, schools were awarded with 5000, 4000 and 3000 GEL as holders of I, II, III places.
National School Olympiads have been conducted since 2009 and approximately 270 000 pupils participate in them annually. Olympiads are held in eight subjects: Georgian Language and Literature (for Georgian and non-Georgian pupils), Mathematics, Physics, Informatics,, Chemistry, Biology, Geography, History, Foreign Languages (English, German, Russian). The Olympiads cover three levels: School, regional and concluding tours. 10 winners of the last tour become members of the national team and participate in international Olympiads.
Level of preparedness and the number of pupils participating in the Olympiads is increasing annually. The Ministry of Education and Science shall continue encouraging talented pupils.
