A work meeting of Special Committee reviewing cases of persons dismissed on political grounds was held in Batumi on August 24-25. The Committee members are planning to meet the authors of written applications submitted from Adjara and Guria and hold hearings of the witnesses.
23 applications were submitted to the Ministry for initial review from Adjara and Guria. The authors of ten applications have submitted additional documents following deficiency letters from the Ministry and their substantial hearing will be held on this stage.
Similar meeting was held in Zugdidi on August 23.
The meetings in Zugdidi and Batumi were organized on August 23-25. The Committee members spoke with 22 applicants from the region. The abovementioned visit is organized with the financial support of the Ministry and UN High Commissioner.
After the visit, the Committee will finish half of the cases that are on the stage of substantial hearing. Following technical works and the process of information summarizing, the applicants will be informed on the decision.
The Committee has studied up to 70 applications at present. As a result of the process, the facts of dismissal on political grounds as well as violations and facts of preferential treatment were singled out. There are cases of dismissal as a result of certification examinations.
Special Committee is composed of the representatives from the Ministry, civil society organizations and Public Defender’s Office.
After the initial hearing the Committee prepares reports that are of recommendative character for the Ministry, as the Committee only proves or denies the fact of dismissal on political grounds.
