Deputy Minister of Education and Science Lia Gigauri and Director of Shota Rustaveli National Science Foundation Sulkhan Sisauri awarded winners of International Olympiads in IT, biology, mathematics and physics with money prizes.

Giorgi Guliashvili (Demireli College) won a silver medal on the 25th International Olympiad in Informatics (IOI 2013) held in Australia. The Ministry awarded Giorgi Guliashvili with 3 000 GEL. The winners of bronze medals Jimsher Skhirtladze, Nikoloz Svanidze (Komarov Physics-Mathematical School) and Tornike Mandzulashvili (Ilia Vekua Physics-Mathematical Public School 42) were awarded with 2000 GEL each.

Nanuli Gvazava (Abasha Public School 1) won a bronze medal on the 24th International Biology Olympiad (IBO 2013) held in Switzerland. She was awarded with 2000 GEL. It is noteworthy, that the team from Georgia has been participating in International Biology Olympiad for three years and this is the first award.

The 54th International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO 2013) was held in Columbia this year. Akaki Margvelashvili (Kutaisi A. Razmadze Public School 41) and Giorgi Svanadze (Tbilisi Komarov Physics-Mathematical School) got bronze medals and were awarded with 2000 GEL each.

Shota Rustaveli National Science Foundation provides selection and preparation of teams for the international Olympiads. The teams were composed of the successful pupils, winners of National Subject Olympiads. They passed additional writing tours. 19 pupils from 4 teams have passed a special one-month preparation course with daily 6-hour theoretical and practical activities in Tbilisi and Bakuriani. Experienced scientists prepared the teams in accordance with special programs set for international Olympiads.

The Ministry is running different programs in order to encourage pupils; among them is the National Olympiad. The Ministry shall encourage successful pupils in future.
