Seminar held in the framework of Millennium project
Minister of Education and Science of Georgia Tamar Sanikidze
attended a seminar held in the framework of Millennium Challenge Account –
Georgia” (MCA-Georgia). Topic of the seminar was Criteria and Procedures for
ABET Accreditation. Representatives from National Center for Educational
Quality Enhancement, higher education institutions and education experts
attended the seminar.
The aim of ABET representatives’ visit to Georgia is to study programme and scientific/infrastructural conditions and to define compliance of natural sciences and engineering programmes with ABET standards.
The project is implemented by MCA-Georgia within Higher Education Component of MCC (Millennium Challenge Corporation) Second Compact. Results of the survey will be used for the selection of natural sciences and engineering programmes for American partner universities in Georgia.
Results of the survey will also be important for Georgian higher education institutions in terms of programme enhancement and planning of a long-term strategy.
ABET experts are carrying out assessment of 10 natural sciences and engineering programmes of Georgian state universities and elaboration of detailed strategy for five programmes to acquire ABET accreditation. These universities are: Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University, Georgia Technical University, Ilia State University, Akaki Tsereteli State University, Batumi Shota Rustaveli State University.
ABET, Accreditation Board of Engineering and Technology represents a non-governmental organization that accredits educational programmes in applied science, computing, engineering and engineering technology. The Board has accredited more than 3000 programmes in more than 600 universities.
