Criminalistics Laboratory in Georgian Technical University
Criminalistcis
laboratory which has no analogy in Transcaucasia started in Georgian Technical
University. Minister of Education and Science of Georgia Tamar Sanikidze,
Minister of Justice Tea Tsulukiani and Minister of Internal Affairs Aleksi Batiahsvili visited the modern laboratory.
Recently, criminalist tactics, technique and methodology have not been sufficiently used. As a result, interest towards criminalistics has decreased in educational institutions. These factors predetermined the necessity of opening such a laboratory.
Taking into consideration the abovementioned and with the support of the Ministry, Academic Council of Georgian Technical University made the decision to set up a modern laboratory within the Department of Law. 70 000 GEL was allocated for this reason. The equipment was purchased with the assistance of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and is analogous to the equipment used in American Federal Bureau of Investigations.
The laboratory aims at:
- Deepening theoretical knowledge received from BA and Master educational programs in criminalistics with the help of laboratory research and practical skills;
- Preparing vocational students in criminalistics.
- Cooperating with other educational institutions in terms of research and practical experience.
The guests also visited a court room for simulated trails and a legal clinic, where the students with relevant knowledge provide legal consultations to IDPs and the Technical University staff.
