At the meeting specialists thoroughly presented their understanding of the concept, goal and strategic purpose of the project, – “At Georgian Technical University we are carrying out a project called ‘Georgian Research Institute of Energetics and Hydrology’. We are going to set up the most modern institute, in the laboratories of which students, academic personnel and various companies will have an opportunity to conduct research and several experiments, which will help the Georgian government to organize the study of such issues as hydrology and energetics. I would like to add that I am terribly sorry for what is happening in your country right now. Hopefully, with the help of Technical University, we will be able to study the reasons for the flood and prevent fatal consequences”, - said Masud Mirza, Regional Director of Bilfinger.
In the modern study and research laboratory Georgian scientists will be able to research, examine and model issues such as mud-slide, disasters caused by rain and other natural disasters. Hydroelectric power stations and ports will be built which requires physical and natural experiments as well as laboratories, and exactly such a centre is going to be the energetics and hydrotechnics laboratory. This soon-to-be the largest centre will be one of the leading centres in Europe.
In the laboratory it will be possible to train qualified staff and conduct research. The hydro engineering laboratory will be in charge of not only staff training but also of any kind of decision about publication of findings. This particular project is important in terms of the aforementioned research and experimental basis applying to the challenges that our country is facing at the moment – whether it be water management, natural disasters, natural resources, ecology or others. All these will help us train proper personnel, conduct research and experiments that the country will also make a great use of in terms of prevention. Both teachers and professors will be trained at this centre nonstop for one year in Georgia as well as in Austria.
The new laboratory is a part of strategically important projects being carried out by the Ministry of Education and Science of Georgia. Soon several powerful institutions with their contemporary experimental bases will start functioning in Georgia. One of them – University Clinic – already successfully operates. Soon the rehabilitation of the Agricultural Scientific Research Institute will be over, and the Institutes of Computational Mathematics, Cybernetics and Quantum Physics will resume functioning with new bases.
