Summer schools are conducted by the initiative of the Ministry of Education and Science of Georgia. Within the program “Multicultural summer school for ethnic minorities, 2 activities will be provided: “Multicultural summer school for teachers” and “Multicultural summer school for students”. The sumer school is conducted in 2 groups.
The Minister of Education and Science of Georgia and her deputy Lia Gigauri checked out the progress of the summer school today and awarded the participants of the program with certificates.
The first group of the summer school had 50 teachers from non-Georgian speaking schools and sectors of Georgian regions (Kakheti, Kvemo Kartli, Samtkshe Javakheti).
The aim of the subprogram is to promote civil integration of ethnic minorities and engage them in politic, economic and social life of the state.
The second group of summer school will be for students. The participants are 50 students of 9th, 10th, 11th grade of non-Georgian speaking schools/sectors of Georgian regions according to the academic year of 2014-2015, who had the best scores in the essay contest “My Culture and tradition” organized by the Ministry of Education and Science of Georgia; and 50 teachers of these students.
General educational system of Georgia aims to create proper conditions to develop a free person who has national and universal human values. Also there is a problem of Knowledge of the state language in the ethnic minorities, which is one of the obstacles for the full integration in the society. Accordingly, there is a need to provide promoting events to teach Georgian language to students and teachers. This program is exactly for promoting dialogue between cultures and teaching/learning Georgian language to ethnic minorities.
