After the invitation by The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, UNESCO General Director Eric Falt visited city of Batumi during 13-16 September within the framework of the event dedicated to 70th anniversary of UNESCO.
Eric Falt met the minister of Education and Science of Georgia, Tamar Sanikidze and the Deputy Minister Giorgi Sharvashidze.
During the meeting several issues were discussed. Among them was restoring UNESCO departments in Georgia. Both sides are desired to reestablish for many years successfully operated UNESCO departments in Georgia.
UNESCO will also take care to train Georgian specialists of Education Management at International Institute for Educational Planning (IIEP). Eric Falt welcomes the initiative of Ministry of Education and Science, according which the document - education directions (areas) list is being prepared. The document will be based on "International Standard Classification of Education" (ISCED-F-2013), which will contribute to harmonization of Georgian higher educational statistical database system with European educational area. In addition, this fact will promote the recognition of diplomas given by Georgian educational institutions.
