The Minister of Science and Education of Georgia – Ms. Tamar Sanikidze, accompanied by the Deputy Minister – Mr. Giorgi Sharvashidze, held a meeting with the Science and Technology Adviser to the Secretary of State – Professor Vaughan Turekian, as well as other members of the delegation. The aim of the meeting was the support of the ongoing reforms conducted by the Ministry of Education and Science, as well as sharing news and experience.
Our high ranking guests, received a number of detailed information regarding the significant legislative changes and the projects, which have been implemented over the period of last few years in the country, in terms of development of science, strengthening the research component in the educational process, and increasing the popularity of science amongst the Youth. The meeting also focused on the allocated sum of 140 million USD (issued by Millennium Challenge Compact) and the ongoing projects within its framework.
Professor Turekian was appointed as the advisor to the Secretary of State in September, 2015. He holds substantial experience in both practical science (atmospheric chemistry), as well as, in designing scientific policies. Whilst possessing the above-mentioned experience, Professor Turekian, promotes the development of science, technology and engineering as an US diplomat to the United States foreign policy.
