Owing to the initiative of K.Kekelidze National Center of Manuscripts, a new exhibition – Medieval Treasures” was opened at Simon Janashia Georgian Museum. The exhibition unveiled pre-Christian and Medieval Georgian art, which reflets the ancient traditions of unity and continuity, which formed the basis of Georgia national identity.

National Museum also exhibited X-XVIII century manuscripts and luxurious XII-XIII century gospel, decorated with precious stones and ornaments, crafted by Queen Tamar’s orders herself.

Visitors had the opportunity to get acquainted with the unique icons, embroidery artifacts, stone, wood and other medieval featured exhibits, as well as V-VI century preserved mosaic from Bichvinta. The embroidery from XII-XVIII century clearly reflect the evolution process in the Georgian embroidery itself. Together with Georgian art, there were medieval technologies and equipment exhibited, which were used to create these masterpieces.

Furthermore, the exhibition provides a unique opportunity to display the whole context of the authenticity of Georgian Christian art and its continuous development along the path, which takes its origins in the pre-Christian period.
