Within the scope of "Teach and Learn with Georgia", foreign volunteer teacher groups annually visit Georgia. The above-mentioned volunteer teachers live with the host families and are under public school employment, where together with local foreign language teachers and the representatives of the local community are actively involved in the community life. Additionally, local teachers have the opportunity to work together with their foreign colleagues, upgrade their qualification, in conunction with getting introduced to modern teaching methods in the process.
Since 2012, the program has broadened, and now besides the English language, Chinese is also being taught. Furthermroe, since 2013, within the project framework, a new selection criteria has been implemented, which dictates English/French/German to be the mother tongue of the volunteer (according to which language they are willing to teach). Moreover, the applicants should hold a bachelors degree in the following fields: pedagogy, didactics, linguistics or teaching of the above-mentioned foreign language, in conjunction with having the experience in teaching. In addition, the volunteers must be highly motivated. Volunteers wishing to teacg French and/or German should speak English according to the B1 level.
Since 2014, a contract is made for one academic year and several training sessions are held with the volunteers and local teachers.
In 2015, according to the pre-test for the local teachers, the analysis revealed there is a need of a particular direction, and new training modules are introduced towards that direction.
Since September 2015, yet in a pilot mode, German and French speaking teachers have the opportunity to participate in the program,
There are currently 24 English speaking volunteer teachers, one French, and 16 Chinese language bolunteer teachers involved in the poject. Altough, there will be a new wave of volunteers to be expected from the next academic year.
