In regards to supporting and promoting the development of vocational education, the Ministry of Education and Science of Georgia, in cooperation with the United Nations Development Program, held a meeting, where a Work-Based Learning concept was introduced. The aim of the presentation was to prepare individuals, who can find work with the corresponding field industry.

The Minister of Education and Science – Aleksandre Jejelava greeted the conference participants and highlighted the importance of the work-based learning opportunities, and emphasized its significance to the Georgian economy. In addition, he mentioned that a Georgian model of work-based learning should be established.

The conference focused on the various types of work-based learning models, and their relevance towards the vocational education in Georgia, including a German, Swiss and Austrian dual education models.

The United Nations Development Project has presented a new model of work-based learning, which was created by dual principles of teaching and implies the current Georgian economic situation and its educational system. The introduction of the model will begin in the Fall, with the cooperation of Georgian Farmers’ Association, which is fully supported by the UNDP.

Whilst working in groups, the participants discussed the new format of the model and the future issues that might arise, and prepared recommendations regarding these issues.

The meeting was attended by the representatives of the Ministry of Education and Science, UNDP, Swiss Development Office, as well as the members of the Georgian Farmers Association and the principals of the vocational educational institutions.
