The Deputy Minister of Education and Science of Georgia - Lia Gigauri, within the scope of working visit in the UK, met with the participants of Buckswood summer school.
Lia Gigauri received information regarding the summer school program, and its approaches and methodology, in conjunction with negotiating with the school principal for future cooperation prospects.
The Ministry of Education and Science of Georgia has implemented the project – “Strengthening the English language teaching program”, which includes two strands: a) “Summer Schools in Georgia” and b) “Summer Schools in the United Kingdom”.
Students of 9th, 10th and 11th grade, who won the Academic Olympiads and gained success in various competitions, have the opportunity to participate in the English Language Summer School program. A total of 600 students participate in the program, who travel to the UK for a two-week English Language summer school.
The students who are eligible to travel to the UK are selected carefully with the following criteria: a student has to achieve academic progress and show academic development, a student must be involved in various academic activities with their peers, and must demonstrate excellent communication skills, in conjunction with skills in creativity, independence, time management, leadership and etc.

Furthermore, 12 best students, out of which four are from Tbilisi and eight of them from the regions, have the opportunity to undergo a language course at a Buckswood Summer School, which is located in the United Kingdom.
The everyday life in a British Summer School is diverse, fun and rather interesting. Besides receiving education with practical skills and learning to be independent, students gain international friends and are involved in various social activities.
Moreover, the English lessons start at 9:00 am to 13:00 pm everyday. Grammar and new vocabulary is taught on daily basis, as well as understanding the text comprehension. There are multiple interesting articles, movies and books discussed during the lessons, which significantly improves the level of knowledge and language skills.
After the academic hours, there comes the non-academic social activities time. Each day is different than the previous. Students plan and execute their daily activities carefully, and have the opportunity to identify their talents. Sports competitions are held in almost every sport, but football is rather exceptional.
