The Minister of Education and Science of Georgia – Aleksandre Jejelava met with the journalists and informed them with the latest news. In particular, he spoke regarding the equipment of schools with the technological and electronic services and resources, financing the schools with smaller contingents, as well as developing the infrastructure in the regional schools. According to the Minister, during these months, he met with more than 13,000 teachers and spoke about the issues of general education, and got the necessary information from them,
During the press conference the Minister noted, that it is of paramount importance to free the educational system from the politics. Therefore, the clause of “threat” in the teachers existing scheme is abolished, which entails firing the teacher, in case the vocational exam is not passed. Consequently, in the future, there will be a confirmation of teachers’ qualification, instead of the exam, thus withdrawing the word – “barrier”.
During his meeting with the journalists, the minister spoke about the national curriculum and the respective load on teachers and students. The Minister mentioned that for the development of our education, it is important for the teachers and parents to work together. Additionally, during the discussion a number of important issues were addressed such as inclusive education, attracting young teachers in the educational system, child abuse and violence, the significance of the system transparency and many more.
There will be a number of important news put into motion in the vocational education from the new academic year. Additional 50 important professions/vocations was introduced within the scope of the vocational education, a number of new educational institutions were opened, etc. As for the science, a number of important constitutional changes were made, which includes the raise of the salary and the increase in scholarships and funding.
The Minister answered every single question asked by the journalists and stated, in about 2-3 weeks, he will introduce an extensive strategy to the public, which is scripted in the short-term, medium and long-term perspective. Aleksandre Jejelava is sure, that a course will be taken, which the other ministers will continue to adhere.
