The primary education project (G-PriEd) was carried out through funding of the US Agency for International Development and assistance of the Ministry of Education and Science of Georgia, where 585 public schools (28% of the Georgian schools) and 121 000 pupils were involved. Within the framework of the project, 7944 teachers of Georgian language, Mathematics and Georgian as a second language were retrained.
The project has assisted the pupils of primary classes in enhancement of their reading, mathematics and entrepreneurial skills.
For the purpose of introduction of innovative methods of teaching on primary level in Georgia, promotion of the pupil-oriented environment and improvement of the results of pupils, a variety of additional training resources for teachers, pupils and their parents were created within the framework of the project. The teachers, pupils and parents of non-Georgian language schools received the methodological and training resources in their native language. Through the vocational development model of the school base, teachers have enjoyed continuous support for innovative lessons.
On the Education Management Information System (EMIS) base, G-PriEd created the Internet portal of resources: www.kargiskola.ge, where the high-quality training programs, e-learning resources, videos, online software generating the classroom diagnostic assessment tests, sample plans of lessons, computer mathematical games and writing skills development application are provided. With the support of the portal, teachers, school directors and parents will have access to training and support material, developed under the project with the Ministry of Education for improvement of teaching-learning.
It should be noted that within the framework of the project, parents were actively involved in the fun and interesting activities of schools. The project recommendations helped teachers to improve communication with parents.
