Free lessons were successfully implemented in Tbilisi 60^th Public School, within the frameworks of which pupils carried out the projects - “Decoupage i.e. renewal of old things” and “Creation of Hand-made Books”. They breathed new life into the old, damaged and useless things, renewed them and brought them back to their functions, made plots, illustrations and constructed little books with their own hands. Lia Gigauri, Deputy Minister of Education and Science was introduced to the activities of the pupils and she reviewed their work made within the scope of the project.

“Free lessons” were implemented in schools to increase the quality of education and pupils’ motivation towards learning. Non-formal, free lessons are one of the important tools to strengthen schools, because as a result of funding by the State, income of the acting teachers of school as well as the management/administration was increased and thus the motivation, too. Life of school became more active, funny and interesting for pupils.

Free lessons imply a cycle of out of class/non-formal activities, which content and teaching methodology are different from the lesson, they do not cover doing homework, evaluation of the pupil, they are voluntary and they do not bear the character of lessons.

800 public schools were involved in the program in the current academic year. Free lessons are held within the framework of the following directions:

• Sports activities;
• Improvement of literacy;
• Culture/arts;
• Intellectual-cognitive activities.
