One gold, two silver and three bronze medals - these are results of team of six persons, which came from 58th International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO 2017), which was held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. These results are unprecedented in the history of education of our country.

615 pupils participated in the Mathematical Olympiad from 111 countries worldwide, among which the Georgian team took the 12th place in team competition (until now the best result was the 25th place), whereas Aleksandre Saatashvili, a pupil of Komarov Tbilisi School of Physics and Mathematics took the 5th place in individual competition that is also unprecedented and best result for our country. The result of the 9th grade pupil, Nikoloz Birkadze should be especially mentioned, who took part in the National Training Olympiad for the higher grades, passed the selection tours, appeared at the World Mathematical Olympiad for the first time and became the owner of the silver medal.

Meet Medalists: Gold Medalist - Aleksandre Saatashvili (Komarov, 12th grade); Silver medalists - Saba Lepsveridze, Nikoloz Birkadze (Komarov, 11th and 9th grade); Bronze Medalists - Irakli Shalibashvili, David Tatoshvili (Vekua Public School №42, 12th grade), Davit Khvedelidze (Komarov, 10th grade).

The group was led by Leader Giorgi Chelidze - Doctor of Physics and Mathematics, Assistant Professor, co-leader Givi Nadibaidze - Candidate of Physics and Mathematics, Assistant Professor; Assistant Ushangi Goginava - Doctor of Mathematical Sciences, Full Professor.

On the same day the team of pupils returned from the 48th International Physics Olympiad (IPhO 2017), which was held in Indonesia, namely in Jokiakarta. The teams from 88 countries participated in the Olympiad. The Georgian team managed to win three bronze medals, which is a very good result compared to last year. Bronze medalists are - Giorgi Grigolia, Gela Patashuri (Komarov, 12th grade) and Zurab Jashi (Vekua N42 Public School, 11th grade).

The leaders of team were: Leader - Giorgi Dalakishvili, Doctor of Natural Sciences, Assistant Professor of Natural Sciences and Engineering Faculty of Ilia State University; co-Leader Grigol Peradze Master of Natural Sciences, Fundamental Physics, twice the owner of Bronze Medal of two International Physics Olympiads; Assistant Mikheil Gabeskiria a Doctor of Physical and Mathematical Sciences.

The Ministry of Education and Science of Georgia finances and organizes many projects to encourage talented students, including "International Training Olympiads Subprogram", in the framework of which the Ministry provides the preparation and then participation of Georgian teams of pupils for Prestigious International Subject Olympiads. This year the Ministry will present teams of students at the International Training Olympiads in five disciplines: Chemistry, Physics, Informatics, Mathematics and Biology.
