The final stage of Young Inventors and Scientists Contest Leonadro Da Vinci 2017 was held. The winners of grand prix, the first, second and third positions were revealed. All participants received special certificates and prizes from various organizations.

Grand Prix winners: Grigol Mikadze, Luka Buskandze, Tsotne Mikadze (project title-detection of a new biologically active substance from curcumin).

The first prize winners: Iona Iobidze and Giorgi Uratidze (project title-distance measuring robot).

The second prize winners:  Jemal Gonashvili, Giorgi Zhorzholiani, Ioane Salukvadze (project title-smart cart).

The third prize winners: Shorena Gujabidze, Dea Ilarionova and Marina Gujabidze (project title-unveiling invisible-mosaic screen).

The winners of grand prix will have a tour abroad. The first prize winners will be awarded with GEL 5000, the second prize winners-with GEL 3000 and the third prize winners-with GEL 2000.

In total, 44 applications were submitted for Young Inventors and Scientists Contest 2017. 19 works were selected for the final stage. 20 out of 44 applications were submitted from regions (Kutaisi, Khashuri, Batumi, Rustavi, Chokhatauri, Akhmeta, Tsageri). 24 applications were from Tbilisi.

Young Inventors and Scientists Contest is annually announced within the activities of Shota Rustaveli Scientific Fund of the Ministry of Education and Science. Since its beginning 368 applications were submitted at the contest. 49 out of them became winners and were considered as inventions.

The goal of the competition is to facilitate improvement of education level, stirring interest toward innovations and technical progress and popularization of science among young generation. The contest reveals talented young people via open and equal competition terms and gives them impetus for the development of creative thinking, theoretical and practical skills. Schoolchildren of VII-XII forms from state and private schools participate in the competition individually as well as in teams.

The contest is held in two directions: scientific studies and engineering. The submitted contest applications include the following fields: engineering mechanics, robotics and intellectual machines, physics and astronomy, environment engineering, earth and environment protection sciences, chemistry, biology, biomedical and health sciences, established systems, etc. 

New problem solution method related to the product or product creation technology can be considered as an invention. The winners are revealed according to several criteria (target issue, design and methodology, implementation, creative manner, presentation skills) and scores accumulated during the contest stages.
