The National English Spelling Competition was held at Tbilisi State University. The First Deputy Minister of Education and Science of Georgia - Ketevan Natriashvili and a Rector of Tbilisi State University - Giorgi Sharvashidze opened the event.

"National English Spelling Competition" (NESC-GE) is equivalent to the American project "Spelling BEE" and is held for the fifth time in Georgia this year. The competition comprises of students from 8th - 12th grade from 12 regions of Georgia. More than 3600 students, 450 teachers and 260 schools took part in this year's competition. Competition consists of three stages, where the participants compete against each other to spell difficult English words. This competition offers unique opportunities for Georgian children and their teachers to improve their English skills, in conjunction with demonstrating their school and community.

NESC-GE was founded by the Peace Corps volunteers in Georgia, and is regarded as a  nationally important project, that is supported by the Georgian and international organizations and institutions such as the Ministry of Education and Science of Georgia; American Embassy, ​​American Peace Corps, Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University, British Council in Georgia, PH International; IWA; and many more.
