The Acting Minister of Education and Science of Georgia - Mikheil Chkhenkeli spoke about the development of science and youth affairs at the united committee session for Education, Science, Culture, Sports and Youth Affairs, Healthcare and Social issues.
According to Mikheil Chkhenkeli, a special emphasis bestowed on science remains one of the top priorities for the Ministry of Education and Science, and it will carry out many important activities in this regard, in cooperation with Shota Rustaveli Scientific Foundation. Amongst them, will be an annual grant, in order to attract scientists in conducting various interest research studies/experiments.
In his speech, Mikheil Chkhenkeli emphasized the importance of cooperating with foreign funds, scientific research centers and organizations. In this regard, Georgia has already joined the program – Horizon 2020, which is an important resource for enhancing the local science funding. The next phase of cooperation for Georgia, is the participation in Horizon Europe project.
Additionally, in terms of scientific-research cooperation with the European colleagues, the agreement has been reached with the President of the European Association for cooperation in Science and Technologies, according to whom, Georgia will become a member of the Association. Moreover, Academy of Europe will open in Tbilisi, which will serve as a hub for the European Scientific-Research academia, thus creating and shaping Georgian researchers and young scientists.
Mikheil Chkhenkeli expressed his gratitude towards foreign donors and partner organizations for aiding in the development of Georgian education system on behalf of the Georgian people.
