On December 24, Deputy Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sport of Georgia Levan Kharatishvili and Director of National Film Center Zurab Maghalashvili visited the Georgian Film and inspected the archival materials.

The project "Georgian Chronicles" is being implemented with the support of the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sport of Georgia and National Film Center since 2017.

The project implies cleaning, sorting, fixing the condition of the film (documentary audio and visual material) from the studio "Mematiane" archive, to record and copy the material into digital format.

In the first phase, from July 15 to November 30, 2017, technical processing, cleaning and digitalization of the 4385 box was part of the film and audio material. At the second stage of the project, 12,000 boxes were processed, cleaned and 1 minute out of each unit was digitalized. The digital film format of the film "Georgian Film" is carried out on its own material-technical base. Verified materials have already been taken and stored in a specially renovated area of ​​the Georgian film studio "Georgian Film". The repositories were repaired by "Georgian Film" in accordance with special standards. These works are carried out by the independent expert supervised by the Film Center.

"Chronicle of Georgia"

There is a unique cinematic material in the studio "Mematiane”, which contains more than 25 000 boxes, including unidentified chronic-documentary material (approximately 3000 boxes) which contain unique moments of history of our country - from 1918 to 2000. Among them is the funeral of David Sarajishvili in 1911, the arrival of Georgian troops in Batumi, chronicles of war in Abkhazia, unique material from documentary cycle "from Georgia to Europe" and others. That is why it is vital that we clean, identify, draft, create the information base in order to know what wealth our country possesses.
