The Minister of Education, Science, Culture
and Sport of Georgia - Mikheil Chkhenkeli held an introductory meeting with the
World Bank Regional Director - Sebastian Molineu, and introduced the ongoing
and planned changes in various fields of education.
The Minister thanked the World Bank
Regional Director for supporting the development of education in Georgia and
expressed hope that the close cooperation with the World Bank will continue in
the future with the same intensity.
During the meeting the discussion also
focused on the model of financing of higher education. According to the
Minister, work is already underway in this regard, with the involvement of the
World Bank being of great importance. Mikheil Chkhenkeli also spoke about Kutaisi
International University and introduced Sebastian Molineu to the university
general concept and the process of preparation of the educational programs.
The Minister emphasized that one of the main priorities of the
Ministry is the further development of vocational education, which is directly
related to employment. According to the Minister, the quality of vocational
education must meet the requirements of the market existing in Georgia in
conjunction with the international standards. Additionally, underlying the
importance of the private sector and their active participation in the
development of the curriculum, provision of trainings, internships and the
employment.
