The Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sport, Mikheil Chkhenkeli, together with the Acting US Ambassador Elizabeth Rudd participated in the opening ceremony of the newly rehabilitated public school in the village of Kveshi in Gori municipality.

Minister Mikheil Chkhenkeli delivered a speech and congratulated the students, teachers, village residents and regional residents on the renovation of the Kveshi School: “Today is a very important day. We opened a newly rehabilitated public school near the administrative dividing line. For me, as a dual citizen of Georgia and the US, I am especially proud that this project has been implemented with the help of the American people. I would like to thank the American Government, the US Army Corps of Engineers, and the US Embassy for this project. As you know, education and caring for young people is a top priority of our government, as only a well-educated society can cope with the challenges and obstacles of the 21st century."

The village of Kveshi Public School, where 247 students are studying, is one kilometer from the administrative division boarder. During the rehabilitation works the three-storey building was completely renovated, as well as renewing the entirety of the building’s interior. The stairs and the roof were repaired, the exterior facade insulation was carried out, in conjunction with installing brand new toilets, water, sewage, electricity and heating systems. The school yard and the drainage systems were also repaired. The renovated school building is in full line with the modern standards.

Renovation of Kveshi Public School was financially funded by the US Department of Defense, Humanitarian, Disaster and Civilian Assistance (OHDACA) within the framework of the US European Command Humanitarian Assistance Program.

Governor - Giorgi Khojevanishvili, Mayor of Gori - Konstantine Tavzarashvili, and the School Principal Lela Bibiluri were attending the school opening ceremony.
