Ekaterine Dgebuadze, Deputy Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sport of Georgia handed over new approved textbooks to the VII grade students of Tbilisi №202 Blind Children's Public School, assembled in Braille and printed with terrain drawings.

The Ministry of Education and Scientific Infrastructure Development Agency of the Ministry of Education and Science provided the adaptation of the school textbook with 186 Braille fonts and printed in 15 terrain drawings worth 227,442 GEL.

"The only school for the blind and visually impaired in Georgia has now been fully equipped with new approved textbooks that are adapted to Braille and include terrain paintings. Therefore, students will have the opportunity to receive information both in the form of text and will be able to perceive the visual materials given in the textbooks through tactile touch” stated Ekaterine Dgebuadze.

The main priority of the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sport of Georgia is to provide access to educational resources for all students and to create an adapted learning environment in accordance with modern standards. In this regard, the Ministry is implementing various sub-programs within the framework of the Inclusive Education Promotion Program.

Tbilisi Public School No. 202 for the blind  and visually impaired children has already been given primary, I-IV grade textbooks with terrain and Braille textbooks. A special educator, as well as an occupational therapist, a speech therapist, a mobility trainer and a psychologist are actively involved in the learning process in order to facilitate the social adaptation of school students and their involvement in community activities.

Blind and partially sighted students participate in the National Training Olympiad and successfully pass the Unified National Examinations every year. The exam material is adapted in Braille and capital letters.
