The Ministry of Education, Science,
Culture and Sport of Georgia starts to get acquainted with the reforms in the
education system. Minister Mikheil Batiashvili will introduce the information
himself to the general public regarding the specific reforms.
“Specific steps are taken in all
directions and its implementation is under the active phase. There is a wide aray
of reforms that is oriented on fundamental changes, and the Ministry, in time,
will provide all the necessary details to the society on a daily basis” stated the
Minister during the meeting with journalists.
The new model of education presents
both pre-school and general education as well as infrastructure development,
innovation and technologies, safety, national exams, quality assurance in
higher education institutions, introduction of new model of funding for universities,
vocational education, science education, education clusters and so forth.
As the Minister stated during the meeting
with the media, the main direction of the pre-school education will be the
foundation for personal development. At the same time, it increases the
availability of access, introduction of new curriculum programs, teachers
retraining and supporting e-resources for parents. Preschool education standard
will be gradually introduced for all age groups.
In terms of general education, the new
model of the school will be introduced, the main task of which will be the
development of complex/critical thinking amongst the students. The new model
also envisages establishment of the school principal as leader, retrained
teachers, renewed infrastructure and so on.
Vocational education will be promptly
implemented, a flexible model of employment that will be focused on regional development
and quick employment in the relevant fields.
In terms of higher education, the main
task will be to integrate the higher education system into the European Higher
Education Area and introduce the International Standard of Education Quality
and create new model of Universities Funding.
One of the important directions of
education reform is the development and promotion of scientists and the
scientific direction in order to become part of a united European scientific
space.
According to the Minister, the reform
implies a complex approach for all directions and it will provide the
transformation of the unified education system.
