Between October 3-25, the Georgian national team won two medals
at the World Online School Chess Championship. Ekaterine Pipia scored 8 points
in the competition for girls under 17 and took the first place among 40
participants and won a gold medal. Additionally, Nia Dongvani took the 3rd
place with 7 points and won the bronze medal, while Diana Lomaia finished the
competition in the 12th place with 5 points.
Mikheil Chkhenkeli: “I am glad that
the great traditions that we have in this sport continue and have been
irreversible for more than 50 years. Georgian age and national team teams are a
force to be reckoned with at the European and World Championships, the
Olympics, and are constantly fighting for prizes.
Ekaterine
Pipia's championship at the World School Championship and Nia Dongvan's bronze
medal are immensely gratifying to me – that is in the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic
with the reduced sports activities, the girls managed to make Georgian chess
fans happy.
