Members of the Interagency Council for the Development of Spatial-Territorial Management System of Mtskheta held an outreach workshop in Mtskheta.

The Deputy Prime Minister of Georgia, Minister of Regional Development and Infrastructure Maia Tskitishvili, Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sport, Mikheil Chkhenkeli, Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development, Natia Turnava, Director General of the National Agency for Cultural Heritage Preservation, Nikoloz Antidze, Mtskheta Representative, Shalva Kereselidze and Member of the Parliament of Georgia, Dimitri Khundadze attended the meeting.

The purpose of the meeting was to discuss the main project solutions and concept proposals of Mtskheta General Plan in relation to the specific environment and surrounding territories. The members of the council got acquainted with the existing and new development areas proposed by the general plan.

The Interagency Council was established on May 10, 2018 by the Government of Georgia. The main task and function of the Council is to facilitate the process of developing the spatial-territorial management system of the city, and to supervise and prepare relevant recommendations.

Mtskheta Spatial-Territorial Development Management Documentation is being developed by “Akolisi”, a multi-disciplinary group selected by the competition and combining eight design companies ran by industry specialists.

The new general plan should ensure the preservation of the status of the World Heritage Site of Mtskheta and avoid a systematic, chaotic city development, thus avoiding the obstruction to socio-economic development of the city.

In 1994, the historical monuments of Mtskheta were included in the list of UNESCO World Heritage Sites, which contributed to the international historical and cultural significance of the city.
