Mikheil Chkhenkeli (Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sports):
"I would like to congratulate the whole society, Georgian rugby and its fans with great joy that the current negotiations with the organizers of the" Six Nations "have been successfully completed and the Georgian national team will participate in a highly prestigious international tournament. This fact is the greatest international recognition of our rugby and Georgian sport as a whole and a clear example of the fact that our rugby is developing very well and is conquering new heights.
Many thanks to the organizers of the Six Nations for such a great deal of trust and, of course, thanks to World Rugby, whose support we have always felt!
It should be noted that a historic decision was made for us during the pandemic, when world and Georgian sports are facing the most difficult challenge. It is gratifying that we overcame the difficulties caused by the pandemic and got the right to play in such a prestigious tournament. Without any exaggeration I can tell you - this is the greatest success in the history of independent Georgian sports!
A great deal of gratitude extends to all the people, whose tireless efforts and love for their job and for this sport managed bring this great victory to our country.
The success of the Georgian national team and, obviously, this historic decision is directly related to the unprecedented investment made by the state and the Cartu Foundation in recent years, which made the development of Georgian rugby irreversible and led to today's success.
Playing with the world's leading national teams in one of the most prestigious rugby tournaments is a great honour and responsibility for the Georgian national team. This is a challenge that our boys will accept with great pride. Congratulations once again and I wish success to Georgian sports and our country as a whole!”
