The Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sport of Georgia, Mikheil Chkhenkeli hosted the winners of the International Olympiad in Informatics and Mathematics at the Ministry and congratulated them on their successful run in the competition.
Members of the Georgian national team successfully competed at the 32nd International Olympiad in Informatics (IOI 2020). Nikoloz Birkadze and Teimuraz Toloraia managed to acquire gold medals, while Archil Basadzishvili won a silver medal and Luka Mushkudiani won the bronze medal.
Georgian students also achieved great success at the 61st International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO 2020). Nikoloz Birkadze was awarded with the gold medal, whereas Teimuraz Toloraia and Luka Mushkudiani won the silver medals, while Ana Onoprishvili and Zaur Bokelavadze won the bronze medals.
Mikheil Chkhenkeli: “I would like to wholeheartedly congratulate you on the success you managed to achieve! It is true that you had to compete in an unusual environment, but nevertheless, you were still able to showcase your special abilities and win multiple medals. Having said this, I also would like to thank your coaches, the organizers of the Olympiad and all the stakeholders involved in this endeavour. I believe that an interesting academic life awaits you and I am watching your professional development with great interest."
Mikheil Chkhenkeli introduced the students to the concept of a mega-project of historical significance - Kutaisi International University and offered them to be involved in the academic and scientific life of this university. According to the Minister, Kutaisi International University will be a great arena for talented young people.
Due to the COVID-19 Pandemic, both Olympiads this year were held remotely. The selection, training and participation of the Georgian national team members for the 2020 International Training Olympiads was carried out with the support of the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sport of Georgia, under the administration of the Shota Rustaveli Georgian National Science Foundation.
