Georgia will host the UEFA European Under-21 Football Championship in 2023, together with Romania. The final decision was made by the UEFA governing body at an Executive Committee meeting on December 3, 2020.
The final match of the recurring 24th U-21 European Championship will be held at the newly built arena in Batumi. 16 European teams will participate in the tournament and matches will be held in Tbilisi, Batumi and Poti.
The Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sport of Georgia, Mikheil Chkhenkeli commented on this achievement and congratulated the Georgian sports fans.
Mikheil Chkhenkeli: "I would like to respond to the decision made by the governing body of European football to host the 2023 European Under-21 Football Championship in Georgia and share the great joy that Georgian football fans are experiencing. Undoubtedly, this is another great victory for Georgian sports and a recognition of international significance. The joint efforts of the Georgian Football Federation, the Ministry and the Government of Georgia have led to this precise result. I am incredibly pleased that the final match of the U-21 Championship will be held at the newly built arena in the city of Batumi. The stadium is constructed in full compliance with the international standards. Undoubtedly, having contemporary infrastructure, in line with modern standards remains a key factor in unveiling the host country. U-21 Championship will be hosted by four different stadiums located in Tbilisi, Batumi and Poti. I would like to congratulate the entire country and wish you all the best and future victories!”
