Owing to the initiative of the Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sport of Georgia, and Minister Mikheil Chkhenkeli, in 2021, a competition for state scientific grants for fundamental research will be funded with an unprecedented high budget, 8 million GEL. Compared to previous years, this is an almost double the budget, which in turn, will allow scientists to be more actively involved in the grant competition. The competition will be administered by Shota Rustaveli Georgian National Science Foundation, which has already completed the preparatory work for the competition.
This year's competition will further contribute to the rapprochement of Georgian science with the international scientific space, as it will be refined and will be even closer to European standards, as well as the competition regulations, competition conditions and evaluation criteria for scientific projects.
The implemented changes provide an opportunity for more accurate and in-depth evaluation of scientific projects and are another step forward in strengthening cooperation with the European Science Area.
