Owing to the decision of the Prime Minister of Georgia, Irakli Gharibashvili, a Ukrainian-speaking sector will be opened for students from Ukraine in Tbilisi. The Minister of Education and Science of Georgia, Mikheil Chkhenkeli personally introduced the decision to the Acting Ambassador of Ukraine to Georgia, Andrii Kasianov.

Mikheil Chkhenkeli hosted the Ambassador at the Ministry and discussed several important issues, including the enrolment of Ukrainian students at Georgian schools.

As the Minister noted during the meeting, this is a crucial decision that will enable Ukrainian students to receive education in their mother tongue. The Ministry of Education and Science is already working on this project.

According to Minister Chkhenkeli, with the support of the Georgian government, the doors of Georgian public and private schools are now open for Ukrainian students and based on the current data, 190 students of different age groups have already been enrolled in Tbilisi and the regions.

For his part, Andrii Kasianov thanked the Government of Georgia, the Prime Minister and Minister for the great support of the Ukrainian people and added that the Embassy will be actively involved in establishing the Ukrainian language sector and will work closely with the Ministry of Education and Science.

Moreover, owing to the decision made by the Government of Georgia, all children who are unable to continue their general education in Ukraine, due of the ongoing conflict in their homeland, will have the opportunity to continue their studies at Georgian schools.  

Children displaced from Ukraine are also provided with a psychosocial support by the psychologists from the Resource Center. It is important to note that as soon as this information was disseminated, dozens of interested individuals applied to the Psycho-Social Service of the Resource Centre.
