The Ministry of Justice of Georgia organized the opening event of the international conference "Comprehensive Approach to Crime Prevention," aimed at enhancing inter-agency cooperation in crime prevention and probation, promoting professional development among specialists, and facilitating the exchange of information on existing services and resources.
Deputy Minister of Education, Science, and Youth of Georgia, Gela Geladze, attended the two-day conference. In his speech, he highlighted several important projects implemented by the Ministry to prevent violence and crime among adolescents, including the introduction of social workers in schools.
Geladze also emphasized the importance of launching a crime prevention course for teachers in collaboration with the Ministry of Education, Science, and Youth and the Ministry of Justice. According to the Deputy Minister, such initiatives will help protect adolescents from potential mistakes and legal conflicts while enhancing public safety.
The conference was inaugurated by Minister of Justice Rati Bregadze, with notable attendees including Lado Kheladze, Head of the Agency for Crime Prevention, Non-Custodial Sentences, and Probation; Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs Irina Tsakadze; Deputy Minister Alexander Darakhvelidze; Prime Minister Niko Tatulashvili; and Rati Ionatamishvili, Chairman of the Committee on Rights and Civil Integration.
A representative of the European Confederation presented a research report on Georgia's probation system, noting its significant development and the acceleration of processes in recent years.
Throughout the two-day conference, Georgia will share its experiences with partner countries regarding innovative approaches and services in crime prevention and probation, including the Georgian innovations "Probbox," "Digital University," and the Crime Prevention Course for Teachers. In return, the Georgian delegation will learn about best practices from European countries that promote the rehabilitation and resocialization of individuals in conflict with the law and help prevent recidivism, thereby enhancing public safety.
