The Minister of Education and Science of Georgia, Mr. Dimitri Shashkini, and
Tbilisi Mayor Mr. Gigi Ugulava visited the future construction site of a new vocational
college, called “Mermisi." The symbolic dismantling of the old
building was undertaken with the use of the special technical equipment
by the Mayor himself.
Growing societal interest in vocational education has contributed to the start-up of an increasing number of vocational colleges.
Construction of the new college will be finished by September 2012; the institution will offer students the fist three levels of vocational educational programs. The college will be equipped with up- to -date technical facilities and will be staffed with qualified personnel.
The college will offer programs in service, tourism and construction fields and will carry out the programs in the following careers: mason, electrician, engine repairer, grocery products specialist, cook, etc.
The development of vocational education is one of the priorities of the Ministry; therefore, the Ministry is carrying out reforms which envisage upgrading the infrastructure of the vocational educational institutions and the capacity building of human resources.
