On September 17, the
Deputy Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sport of Georgia - Levan
Kharatishvili held a working meeting with the OSCE High Commissioner on National
Minorities (HCNM) Lamberto Zannier.
The Deputy Minister introduced the OSCE High Commissioner with various programs
and projects that have been implemented by the Ministry of Education, Science,
Culture and Sport for the integration of Georgian ethnic minorities.
The meeting also focused on
discussing the ongoing reforms in the education system - the High Commissioner
has received comprehensive information on all aspects of the current education
reform. Towards the end of the meeting, the parties agreed on the necessity of
deepening cooperation in this regard, thus meaning on taking specific steps in
near future.
Lamberto Zannier's visit to Georgia will last until September 21. Within the
scope of the visit, meetings of the OSCE High Commissioner with the President
of Georgia, Chairman of Parliament, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs,
Executive and other representatives of the legislative authorities are planned.
The OSCE High Commissioner on National Minorities will also hold meetings with
the CEC Chairman Public Defender and UN Office in Georgia
