Turkey is the host country of the 52nd International Chemistry Olympiad (IChO) this year, where Georgian students will compete with other competitors from 100 countries around the world.
Georgian national team was formed by the students who passed to the third round of the National Olympiad this year. The students went through two additional qualifying rounds, and the overall team composition was determined by the sum of points accumulated in both rounds.
Turkey, which won the host status in 2018, has been preparing for the Olympics for two years with great diligence, however, due to the pandemic, the Olympics will be held remotely on July 23-28 with only one experimental round.
The experimental round, which started on July 25 at 13.00 Tbilisi time, lasts five hours and will involve Georgian students from the Georgian Agrarian University. Although the Olympics are held remotely, the experimental round will include jury sessions, voting, reviewing, assessment, approval, arbitration and even the award ceremony itself.
The International Chemistry Olympiad (IChO) started in Prague in 1968. I tannually involves almost 100 countries around the world. Georgia has been participating in the International Chemistry Olympiad since 2014.
